How to Take Care of your Fountain Pen

Wash the Nib

Using: Cartridge / Converter / Piston filling type

Using Cartridge

to Fill Your Fountain Pen

1. Unscrew or pull the cap (depending on model) to detach from the barrel.

2. Unscrew the nib section from the barrel.

3. With the nib section pointing upward, insert the ink cartridge straight in the direction of the arrow. (When replacing the ink cartridge, please ensure the nib section points upward and remove the used cartridge)

4. Screw the nib section back onto the barrel. Ink will penetrate to the nib after waiting for a while and you may use the pen.

*If you want to use ink quickly after inserting the cartridge, pinch the cartridge lightly to extrude the ink, and drop one drop onto tissue paper.
You can quickly adapt the nib and ink.

*For best performance, we recommend you only use Sailor brand ink cartridges in your fountain pen.

Using Converter

to Fill Your Fountain Pen

1. Unscrew or pull the cap (depending on model) to detach from the barrel.

2. Unscrew the nib section from the barrel and insert the ink converter firmly.

3. Turn the converter knob in the direction of the arrow in Figure 1 and lower the piston.

4. Immerse the nib in the bottled ink and turn the knob of the converter slowly in the direction of the arrow in Figure 2.

5. Wipe off excess ink on the nib or the gripping section with a soft cloth.

6. Screw the nib section onto barrel.

*For best performance, we recommend you only use Sailor brand bottled ink in your fountain pen.

Using Piston filling type

to Fill Your Fountain Pen

1. Unscrew the cap from the barrel. Turn the barrel end slowly in the direction of the arrow in Figure 1 until you feel resistance lightly.

2. Immerse the nib in the bottled ink and turn the barrel end slowly in the direction of the arrow in Figure 2. By closing the barrel end, ink is drawn into the barrel.

At this time please ensure that the nib is immersed deeper than the position of the hole on the nib.

3. Wipe off excess ink on the nib or the gripping section with a soft cloth.

Please note that ink may be pushed out when rotating the barrel end while ink is contained in the barrel.

Wash the Nib in the following cases.

1. When ink in the fountain pen does not come out smoothly after pen is used regularly.

2. When changing to a different type or color of ink.

3. When storing the pen for a while without using.

4. When filling the pen with ink after the pen has not been used for a long time, it may not write.

*Even if it is used frequently, we recommend that you wash it once every 2–3 months.
