Serial Number: 024
A commemorative fountain pen celebrating Sailor's 115th anniversary, with craftsmanship and materials closely tied to Hiroshima, Japan. From the wooden barrel to the packaging, traditional handmade washi paper, and Bingo Kasuri fabric pen pouch, the collection highlights Hiroshima's local traditions.
The emblem of Higashihiroshima City features a fountain pen nib as a symbol of learning, reflecting the city's connection with Sailor, which has manufactured fountain pens in Hiroshima for 115 years.
Yosegi Woodwork
The geometric woodwork combines three types of trees harvested in Hiroshima: maple (harmony), ginkgo (constancy), and Japanese cork oak (strength). Their natural grain and contrasting tones create a modern pattern with the warm feel of real wood.
Bingo Kasuri Pen Pouch
The included single-pen pouch uses Bingo Kasuri, a traditional cotton textile from Hiroshima, dyed with indigo or persimmon tannin. Developed in Fukuyama in 1853, Bingo Kasuri is one of Japan's three major regional kasuri textiles and was designated a Hiroshima Prefectural Traditional Craft in 1992. Production once involved around 250 weavers; today, the traditional techniques are maintained by two workshops.
Recycled Origami Crane Paper
Millions of origami cranes are sent to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park each year as expressions of hope for peace. In a local project, the cranes are carefully dismantled and sorted by hand at employment support facilities before being recycled into paper. Part of the project's proceeds supports Hiroshima City's peace initiatives.
Otake Handmade Washi
Handmade washi has been produced in Otake, Hiroshima, since the Edo period, using local water and carefully selected kozo (paper mulberry) fibers. The Momiji booklet cover uses special handmade washi incorporating recycled paper cranes offered at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The Yosegi edition's booklet cover uses traditional kozo-based backing paper.
